Tips and best practices for staining your dock or deck

Published: January 15, 2022

As of 1/1/2022: We have changed our services. Dock and Deck Staining is one of our primary services. We no longer offer paver sealing or roof soft washing.

When you are staining decks, fences, or any type of wood surface, the boards should be clean of debris and dry. This means staining as soon as possible after your deck has been pressure washed but not too long after. I recommend you wait 48 hours to stain your deck after pressure washing. The temperature should be above 50 degrees. Depending on your stain the temperature should not exceed 90 degrees. And, most importantly avoid staining in direct sunlight (if possible). The sun dries the stain quickly and can create an uneven look and show more brush marks. Check your local weather forecast to make sure conditions are right for staining your deck. Now you are ready to apply stain. Important note: You can change colors by going darker, but you can't go lighter. So be careful on what colors you select.
